Oscar-Winning Matte Artist and VFX innovator Peter Ellenshaw passed away last month in his Santa Barbara home, leaving behind an illustrious career as a visual artist. Ellenshaw, known for his pioneering work on such films as "Mary Poppins," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and  "Darby O'Gill and the Little People," had earned the official status of “Disney Legend” in 1993. Ellenshaw began his career at Disney in 1947 when he was tapped to work on the studio’s first live-action film, “Treasure Island.” He worked there until retirement in 1979 after completion of “The Black Hole.”

Ellenshaw is survived by his two children, Lynda Ellenshaw Thompson and Harrison Ellenshaw, who notably both work in the VFX field, and two grandchildren, Michael and Hilary.
